Audience Intern, Summer 2026

The San Francisco Chronicle is looking for a summer intern to join our team of digital producers and audience editors. In this paid, 12-week summer internship, you will embed with the cross-functional teams who produce our website and app, manage our social channels, multimedia initiatives and newsletters and you will gain wide exposure to how we engage readers, listeners and viewers across platforms. Hourly rate is $19.18/hr. Deadline to apply is November 2, 2025. 

Requirements: This position is full-time, based in San Francisco and likely Monday-to-Friday. Weekend, evening and holiday work may be required as news warrants.

Duties:

Receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues across departments.

Draft social media posts.

Create digital-first content: Depending on the candidate’s skills, this may include writing articles, shooting and/or editing digital video, and creating content targeted to specific social media channels like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

What we’re looking for:

Overall: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with content ranging from breaking news to food guides to sports. Interest in audience engagement work, especially social media strategy and digital-first content. 

Multimedia skills a plus: Video and photo editing experience, or interest in creating graphics, photo or video content for social media.

Newsroom experience: Strong college publication experience or previous internships preferred, but not required.
