About the Team:

Our mission is to change people’s perception of the way rockets are built and flown. At the Cape launch site, the team is responsible for the execution of vehicle, payload, pad, transport, and recovery operations. As an intern focused on vehicle transport and recovery, you will be helping to develop the technical foundation for Relativity’s Transport and Recovery team responsible for critical road and waterborne transportation and the recovery of the Terran R first stage. This role will be focused on the development of over the road and seaborne transport of the Terran R stages across the country and designated portions of the Terran R recovery operation. 

What you'll do:
  • Assist with the technical development including design, build, test, and operations of the transportation system used to ship vehicle stages across the country via road and ocean
  • Collaborate with vehicle design and operations teams on requirements, engineering development, and regulatory compliance for offshore shipping and recovery operations
  • Participate in the engineering and construction of critical assets to support offshore transportation and recovery operations
  • Support testing and the operational phases of offshore transport and recovery
  • Source, develop, and maintain key partnerships with critical suppliers and contractors
  • Perform strategic trades and communicate recommendations to management
Past intern projects (just a few examples!)
  • Designed, built, and tested Aeon R engine ground spin start system
  • Developed automation for precise control of ground system valve actuation
  • Oversaw design and build of load test boxes for Avionics hardware in the loop testing
  • Coordinated/developed interdisciplinary rocket and ground system architecture for Terran R
  • Tested flight quick disconnects 
  • Implemented computer vision on the robots to implemented live depth data 
  • Worked on test stand infrastructure to help run tests more often and more efficiently 
  • Designed and 3D printed tools for rocket integration 

Skills/Competencies we're looking for:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student earning degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and intense startup environment. 
  • Basic knowledge of common fluid & structural components and instrumentation, such as valves, regulators, hydraulic actuators, pressure transducers, thermocouples, flow meters, accelerometers, strain gauges, load cells. 
  • Ownership of projects from beginning to end, with minimal oversight.
