Job Summary
NiSource is currently seeking a Enterprise Architect Intern in Columbus OH. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the IT field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.
This position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring on-site presence three days per week and remote work two days per week.
Essential Functions
Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Architect, the intern works closely with the Application Development, Infrastructure, Security, Data & Analytics, and PMO teams to provide overall architecture leadership across NiSource.
The ideal candidate will have experience envisioning and translating overall architecture with business needs via transformation roadmaps, establish target architecture and standards for the organization, building consensus, and provide guidance in the selling and execution within solution development processes of options and reuse points.
Enterprise Architecture
- Responsible for creating the technology strategy and roadmap. This team is responsible for developing standards and guidelines that should be used in planning, designing and implementing Information Technology applications and platforms. This team works collaboratively with other groups to drive the architecture vision for NiSource.
- Provides expertise on overall direction, guidance, definition, decisions, and priorities regarding the enterprise’s overall architecture to effectively support the organization business strategy.
- Interact with business leaders, IT leaders, vendors and industry experts to translate business requirements, understand options to capabilities, and create architecture blueprints and high-level solution designs for the most complex architectural components of a program.
- Strategy – Interfaces across several business areas, acting as a visionary to proactively assist in defining direction for future projects. Help business leaders and their teams think through the technology, business and operational implications of their technology investment decisions.
- Execution – Reviews, advises, and designs standard software and hardware builds, system options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on the enterprise business process and goals. Be the architecture thought leader and trusted go-to partner for Product and Engineering leadership across the organization, recommending innovative solutions to improve live and new system architectures.
- Operations – Facilitates the establishment and implementation of standards and reference material that guides the design of technology solutions. Lead architectural collaboration and governing processes including Architecture Review Boards, Solution Architecture reviews, exception management, and related processes.
- Innovation - Responsible for researching, analyzing, designing, proposing, and delivering solutions that are appropriate for the business and technologies strategies. Tracks industry trends and maintains knowledge of new technologies to better serve the enterprise’s architecture needs.
Required Qualifications For Position
- Acquiring a degree in data science, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, mathematics
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study
- Keen attention to detail and a quality focused mindset
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Self-discipline for planning and organizing tasks
- Passionate about data
- History of being able to learn new technology quickly
- Solid skills in utilizing computers, operating systems, mobile devices and software (MS Office Suite, MS Project, and other IT applications).
- Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and development, problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications For Position
- Deep knowledge of API-first design patterns, Technology skills across multiple IT domains (e.g. application, data, infrastructure, security)
- Strong consultative skills at a cross-functional level, Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and LeanIX, Knowledge of TOGAF, ITIL, and other architecture / business process frameworks.
- Experience in application development, systems management, and/or project management is a plus.
- Leadership competencies in: Organizing and Setting Priorities- Managing and Measuring Work- Peer Relationships- Continuous Improvement- Motivating Others- Self-motivated; capable of managing multiple tasks.

Salary Range*:
$19.80 - $33.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
