Summer 2026 Recruitment Timeline:  

November 10 – December 5: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume) 

Mid November – Late December: First round video interviews 

Mid – Late January: Second round interviews 

Late January – February: Selected candidates receive offers 

Summer 2026 Internship Program:

  • Applications Close: December 5th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!
  • Program Dates: June 1 – August 7, 2026
  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. 
  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Universal City, CA.

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group: (UFEG) consists of the operations to produce, acquire, market and distribute filmed entertainment worldwide in various media formats for theatrical, home entertainment, television and other distribution platforms.  The division operates globally with colleagues spread across 20 countries. We pride ourselves in supporting and amplifying diverse stories told by unique voices. Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs: NBCUniversal Music Business & Legal Affairs services an array of clients in the Film & Television portfolios. Filmed Entertainment encompasses the Universal Pictures Group, Focus Features, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and Brand Development. The overall landscape of Film includes distinct business functions that each touch a key segment area in the overall lifecycle of a film, from ideation to premiere. On the TV side, there is a vast portfolio of sports, news networks, streaming, entertainment networks, and significant television production operations, including scripted, alternative and late night, and a leading television stations group. This intern’s responsibilities may include the following: researching music rights, analysing and summarizing music deal terms, drafting music talent agreements, reviewing production content for music information, and assisting with tracking rights, analysis, and grid maintenance.
  • Film Music Publishing: The Music Publishing intern will help support the team responsible for monetizing and managing the studio’s film assets as it relates to film music, film score, theme songs, etc. by way of licensing to third parties.
  • Film Music Creative: The Film Music intern will support the team that oversees the selection and commissioning of film composers; the monetization, management, and publishing of the music created by those composers for our films; and the selection, clearance, and licensing of third-party/commercial music for Universal-produced films.
  • USG Television Music Creative Services: The role of the TV Music Creative Services intern is to support the staff while obtaining a well-rounded view of how the music and television industries function together. This experience will allow the intern to understand the activities of a music services department and what it takes to get music placed in television. The intern will engage in music clearance, listen to new music received, search our internal music library, and evaluate tracks for potential use. The intern will assist with day-to-day activities and various research projects relating to both the creative and business affairs sides of the department. In addition, we will provide the intern with experiential learning on the process of clearing and licensing music for programming produced by Universal Studio Group and for promos across NBCUniversal marketing.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program. Spring 2026 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2026 internship program.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week from June 1 – August 7, 2026.
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong interest in music and/or transactional work.   
  • Strong interest in the media industry.  
  • Ability to understand music-related concepts and contractual language.    
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask, prioritize work and deal with different clients simultaneously.   
  • Self-starter, professional, and ability to adapt.   
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.   
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).  
  • For Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Ability to understand music related concepts and contractual language is a plus; Strong interest in music and/or transactional work. 
  • For USG TV Music: Ability to understand music-related concepts and industry terms; Previous experience with music industry software (SourceAudio and DISCO); Experience with music publishing research using industry websites such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR, and the MLC; Familiarity with where to find licensing information on various platforms such as Spotify, Discogs, AllMusic, and Tunefind.

The hourly rate for undergraduate and graduate student interns is $19.00.

The hourly rate for JD student interns is $25.00.
