About the role


The Intern will provide accounting support to both the Financial Reporting and Investment Accounting teams. . This role is designed for an individual majoring in accounting with a foundational understanding of accounting principles who is eager to gain hands-on experience across various areas of insurance accounting. Responsibilities will include assisting with account reconciliations, preparing ad hoc reports, performing clerical accounting tasks, and supporting MAR control processes. The intern will also contribute to data collection and summarization for quarterly Board Reporting. Through rotations between Financial Reporting and Investment Accounting , the intern will gain broad exposure to industry accounting functions. Rotation timing and duration will vary based on departmental needs.


What you'll do

  • Account reconciliation preparation, including but not limited to cash, investments, suspense, other assets and liabilities.  Includes general ledger research, preparation and posting of journal entries, documentation, and follow-up of variances
  • The preparation of quarterly financial statements on a GAAP and statutory basis (introduction to WINGS, Workiva and other internal reporting tools)
  • The preparation of quarterly Board Reporting, including gathering and compiling of various data points focusing on key performance metrics.
  • Collaboration among multiple departments to obtain essential reporting information.
  • Enhance process documentation by reviewing and verifying the accuracy of existing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Performed in-depth analysis of monthly investment data including yields, NAIC ratings, and accrual calculations, utilizing the Bloomberg Terminal for data validation and research.
  • MAR control testing (invoice and journal entry testing), collection/organization and review of TPA reconciliations

Qualifications

  • Progress towards a BA or AA degree in Accounting or related field
  • Prior internship, coursework, or project experience in insurance, investments, or financial reporting environments is a plus.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas) and exposure to financial systems.
  • Proven ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple data points and deadlines.
