Basic Qualifications:
- HS Diploma
- Currently enrolled in a Cooperative Education Engineering program with an accredited institution.
- Currently pursuing a Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering degree from an accredited institution
- Students must have completed 3 semesters of undergraduate education prior to entering the program.
- Must be involved in at least 1 extracurricular activity or prior work experience.
- 3.0+ grade point average.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior internship or work experience in manufacturing
- Casting or Metal fabrication experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills.

Howmet Engines is currently seeking a Cooperative Education student to join our team in Hampton, VA. This position provides an ideal opportunity for an engineering student who desires career growth within Howmet Aerospace, a values-based company that offers advancement opportunities.
Responsible for learning the investment casting process of superalloy power generation components, a Product Engineering Co-op is closely mentored by a Product Engineer.
Work closely with mentor on developing the skills/functions listed below:
- Learn how to develop new, and refine existing investment casting processes to reduce scrap, rework, and manufacturing costs.
- Support manufacturing in the processing of castings through all operations.
- Work concurrently with customers to design components for castability.
- Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues.
- Work closely with mentor on learning how to manage the responsibilities listed below.
- Maintain and improve casting scrap rates.
- Maintain and improve casting rework rates.
- Improve casting profitability through cost reductions.
- Develop and refine manufacturing work instructions.
- Develop casting processes for new products.
- Assist sales department in quotation of new products.
- Achieve cost targets for development and production castings.
- Establish and achieve milestones for casting development.
- Works well in a team environment
