Stantec’s New England Transportation group is looking for an intern in Portland, ME for Summer 2026!  

We are looking for an individual that is passionate about improving our communities through the thoughtful planning and design of transportation systems and infrastructure. This person will learn about enhancing multimodal connections, designing roadways, bridges, and airports to more adaptive and resilient to climate change. This role is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to work collaboratively as part of a project team and gain a better understanding of the project development process for transportation projects of varying scale and complexity. 

 What Will You Be Doing?  

  • Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following: 
  • May assist project teams and administrative staff by preparing or compiling studies, memos, reports, spreadsheets and graphs, drawings, calculations, research and other tasks in support of various transportation projects. 
  • May assist project managers with tasks designed to understand the project management process and internal frameworks. 
  • May include some fieldwork assisting with construction inspection and data gathering for various projects. 
  • Other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned to support the team. 
  • Participate in the broader Stantec internship program to learn more about Stantec, meet and engage with other interns and Stantec leaders, and take part in various workshops and speaker series. 

What Will You Need to Succeed?  

  • Must be a college student working towards a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. 
  • Must have good organizational and time management skills, be punctual, reliable, detail oriented, and capable of taking initiative and working independently when needed. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in both office and virtual environments. 
  • Microsoft Office experience required. 
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, and/or Adobe Creative Suite software is a plus. 
  • Previous internship or co-op experience in similar type work or office environment is a plus. 
  • Willingness to perform field work, as needed.
