BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three- and four-cylinder petrol engines, and precision machining key engine components, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week, with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.

BMW Hams Hall, Birmingham – Physical Logistics Internship – 13- Month Placement (July 2026)

We are looking for a placement student to join our Physical Logistics team for 13 months commencing July 2026. Our function is responsible for providing the right parts at the right time to our manufacturing colleagues, as well as managing the storage of our finished major units in our automatic warehouses. The role will involve supporting the Logistics Operations and Engineering team in running the department, focusing on Digitalisation, App development, Continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing, Problem resolution and identifying and implementing process improvements.

  • Process and data analysis.
  • Software Programming.
  • AI Applications development.
  • Maintain current applications and digital platforms in Physical Logistics.
  • Preparation and support of daily operational reviews.
  • Running FMEA and Risk Analysis.
  • Support Logistics Projects with the design and implementation of Logistical Operations processes.
  • Working on projects surrounding the improvement of communications and health and safety procedures within the Physical Logistics warehouses. 

What should you bring along?

  • Studying towards a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Data Science, Software Engineering or another relevant field and on track to achieve a 2:2 or above.
  • Ability to code and develop App by Python, Apex and similar tools aligned with digital Twin requirement.
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, data visualisation tools, namely Power BI, Tableau, Panda or QlikView.
  • Ability to cooperate and work well within a team.
  • A willingness to learn as well as to teach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
