Department Overview

At the University of Virginia, Student Financial Services (SFS) helps students and families navigate the financial aspects of college life. We provide expert support for financial aid, student accounts, payments, collections, and payment plans, always with a focus on service, integrity, and collaboration.

SFS is part of the Enrollment division, which includes several key units working together to recruit, enroll, and support UVA’s student body: the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, UVA One Stop, AdviseVA, and Commonwealth Partnerships. The Enrollment Finance Team serves as a central resource for these units, promoting financial accuracy, transparency, and efficiency across the division.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Federal Work-Study (FWS) student to join our Enrollment Finance Team as part of the SFS FWS program. This role offers hands-on experience in financial operations and supports the administration of the Federal Work-Study program. You’ll assist with tasks such as reviewing eligibility reports, managing payroll costing allocations, and supporting communication with departments and community partners.

General Responsibilities

  • Review FWS eligibility reports and assist with tracking student awards.
  • Help manage payroll costing allocations by working with department managers to create or correct funding sources.
  • Assist with the Federal Work-Study Community Partner Program by helping review partner eligibility, track student placements, and support communication between UVA departments and off-campus organizations.
  • Support monthly reconciliations and financial reviews across for FWS funding.
  • Assist with organizing financial reports.
  • Collaborate with the Enrollment Finance Team to ensure accuracy and transparency in financial processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for a Federal Work-Study award that can be applied to this role.
  • Must be willing to work 5 in-person hours per week, with 3 hours scheduled on Mondays.
  • Strong computer skills, especially proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data organization)
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Dependable, punctual, and responsible
  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
