Position Overview:
Beam Therapeutics is in search of a motivated Blood Cell Therapies Co-op to join our Blood Cell Therapies team from January through June 2026. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking work in the field of gene editing and hematopoietic stem cell research.
Key Responsibilities:
As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission. Your responsibilities will include:
- Engaging in primary cell culture and immortalized cell line culture activities, including feedings, passaging, and freezing.
- Participating in the development of platform assays, testing new materials and protocols to enhance our research capabilities.
- Mastering the art of transfecting primary hematopoietic stem cells and cell lines with Lipid Nanoparticles (LNPs), a cutting-edge technology.
- Preparing samples for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), Flow Cytometry and other downstream analyses, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our data.
- Documenting your findings meticulously, summarizing your studies, and presenting your results to internal audiences, contributing to the collective knowledge of our team.
- Embracing the opportunity to learn and adapt, acquiring new techniques and skills that make you a versatile, cross-functional asset.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field of study.
- Prior experience with mammalian cell culture is essential.
- Completed entry-level biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and cell biology courses.
- A basic understanding of genomics is desirable and will be an asset in this position.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and feel at home working alongside a dynamic team.
- Previous experience with flow cytometry is a plus, though not mandatory.
- Fully embrace Beam's culture, embodying our values and contributing to our vibrant community.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting college or university program and maintain their student status throughout the duration of the co-op to be eligible.
