BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

•    High School diploma or equivalent
•    Pursuing a BS in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Technology-MET or Mechanical Engineering-ME).
•    Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

•    Effective oral and written communication skills.
•    Efficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Proficiency of computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office products, graphics, and statistical analysis software).
•    Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
•    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
•    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
•    Casting or metal fabrication experience preferred.
 

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting the assigned manager with day-to-day functions of the Engineering department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•    Develop new, and refine existing investment casting product to reduce scrap, rework, and manufacturing costs.
•    Support manufacturing in the production of castings through all operations.
•    Assist engineering / manufacturing in the completion of assigned projects

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Product Engineer Co-Op, you will work with a Product Engineer to assist with their job responsibilities / duties:

A Product Engineer at Howmet LaPorte maintains the dimensional integrity of products via continuous improvement & maintenance.  They are also responsible the cost performance of a portfolio of investment cast, super alloy, aerospace and power generation components.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•    Troubleshoot manufacturing problems & root cause analysis 
•    Develop new, and refine existing investment casting product to reduce scrap, rework, and manufacturing costs 
•    Support manufacturing to ensure on-time delivery of product through all operations 
•    Work concurrently with customers to design components for castability 
•    Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues 
•    Maintain and improve casting scrap and rework 
•    Improve casting profitability through cost reductions 
•    Achieve cost reduction through process improvements 
•    Develop and refine manufacturing work instructions 
•    Develop casting processes for new products 
•    Assist sales department in quotation of new products 
•    Achieve cost targets for development and production castings 
•    Establish and achieve milestones for casting development
•    Interact with customers to understand technical requirements & resolve issues 
•    Provide program management for individual part portfolio
