Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is seeking a part-time, term-limited Data Science Intern to join the Department of Innovation and High Performance. We are looking for a motivated and talented individual with experience in data analysis tools and methodologies. The intern will be responsible for supporting projects that enhance digital services and improve operational efficiencies through data-driven insights. The position is term-limited for approximately 6 months unless additional funding is obtained at a later date. 

The Intern will work approximately 20-25 hours per week during normal working hours (8a-5p, Monday through Friday), not to exceed 29 hours per week. This is a paid position designed for a student currently enrolled in a four-year college/university program.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic typing and computer skills required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or similar.
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment drug screening, Motor Vehicle Record check, and a background check.

Level II:

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year college/university program in Data Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a closely related field, AND completion of two years of coursework.

Level III:

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year college/university program as a Senior or post-graduate program in Data Science, Information Technology, Business, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

OR,

A combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in developing and deploying data-driven applications and analysis tools to support city operations.
  • Experience with various data analysis tools .
  • Experience implementing GIS solutions for providing location-based services and data visualization.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and the ability to learn and adapt to new software and systems.
  • Strong attention to detail in proofreading, grammar, punctuation, and formatting; ability to maintain consistency across documentation.
  • Ability to navigate multiple online data and analytics platforms.
  • Professional presentation in appearance, demeanor, and effort.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain focus on special projects and daily assignments.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Collaborate with multiple departments to collect, analyze, and interpret data to support various city projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement data-driven solutions to address departmental needs, ensuring alignment with user requirements and business objectives.
  • Utilize GIS tools for developing location-based services and data visualizations to enhance decision-making across departments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data solutions meet user needs and organizational goals.
  • Monitor and analyze data solution performance, making adjustments and improvements as necessary to optimize results.
  • Develop reports and validate data accuracy to provide insights and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Establish a framework for continuous improvement in data processes and methodologies.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues related to data tools and systems, ensuring smooth operation and user satisfaction.
  • Innovate by introducing new ideas and implementation strategies to push boundaries in data utilization.
  • Assist with assigned projects, contributing to data analysis and insights as needed.
     

Travel:  Approximately 10% flexible, local travel required.

Supervisory Duties:  NA

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • The position is in an office environment.
  • Frequent contact with others.
  • Vision enough to read computer screens and written documents to complete work assignments.
  • Communication skills enough to convey information verbally and in writing.
  • Manual dexterity enough to accurately input, retrieve, and verify information at fixed workstation.
  • Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects.
  • Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
