Business Unit/Role Specific Info  

Join the Enterprise Data Management team at American Express as a Data Management Graduate Intern, where you’ll support a dynamic central team and lead the way in customer-centric data excellence, ensuring that Amex has trustworthy data available when it’s needed to empower innovation and exceptional experiences. Interns will support activities that deliver on our cross-functional data strategy, as well as reporting on the most significant data program progress and risk metrics as we grow the program. This internship is a great opportunity to develop hands-on experience with enterprise-level data management practices, while working alongside teams from across the company. 

How will you make an impact in this role?  

  • Learn and apply key principles of the Enterprise Data Management Operating Policy to real-world scenarios. 

  • Partner with business units and technology teams to support data management and governance efforts. 

  • Assist in developing presentations and materials to support the data management roadmap and engage our most important stakeholders, from Executive leadership to working teams. 

  • Help test and maintain internal controls that mitigate data risks. 

  • Participate in meetings with Business Unit Data Office and product teams to understand data use cases and support policy-aligned implementation. 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Currently enrolled in Full-time MBA or relevant Master’s degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027  

  • 2-5 years of prior full-time professional experience is required 

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Students must have a graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.  

  • Strong communication and presentation building skills required to influence and engage across our stakeholder teams. 

  • Understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts (metadata, lineage, data quality, etc.)  

  • Ability to collaborate with and build strong relationships with leaders, colleagues in different time zones, and cross-functional partners to deliver value. 

  • Strong project management skills, communication skills, and attention to detail. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present ideas clearly and concisely. 

  • Demonstrated resilience, proactive problem solving, ‘can do’ attitude, and optimism in changing circumstances. 

  • Comfort with challenging the status quo and driving continuous process improvement 

  • Proficiency in analytical and presentation tools, including MS Excel and PowerPoint. Expertise in data visualization tools (such as Tableau) a plus.  

Salary Range: $38.45 to $87.00 hourly + sign-on bonus
