Primary Function of Position


The COE Make Intern will support the MAKE Center of Excellence (CoE) team, part of Intuitive’s Global Operations organization. The MAKE CoE team leads strategic initiatives that optimize operational efficiency across manufacturing, supply chain, and digital systems.

In this role, the intern will contribute to projects that enhance real-time visibility, process automation, data integration, and the deployment of connected manufacturing systems. The position focuses on digitizing manual workflows and developing connected solutions that improve transparency, data accuracy, and decision-making.

The intern will collaborate with COE Make and Automated Data Capture (ADC) engineers, IT, and cross-functional business teams to pilot solutions, and validate outcomes aligned with the company’s Industry 4.0 transformation initiatives. This position offers hands-on exposure to advanced manufacturing systems, IoT technologies, and large-scale digital transformation programs.

Essential Job Duties

  • Support MAKE CoE initiatives aimed at automating manufacturing processes to improve visibility, accuracy, and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with business teams to gather requirements and define digital workflows that integrate with SAP S/4 HANA or middleware systems.

  • Participate in the design, testing, and validation of data-driven applications or dashboards to enhance real-time decision-making.

  • Assist in developing technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials for pilot implementations.

  • Analyze process data and prepare performance metrics that measure improvement in time, accuracy, or productivity.

  • Contribute to proof-of-concept (POC) efforts using emerging technologies such as IoT or automation platforms to address operational challenges.

  • Support cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality, and IT to ensure successful deployment and adoption.

  • Present project progress, outcomes, and improvement opportunities to stakeholders and leadership teams.

Qualifications

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.

  • Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10–12-week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Required Education and Training

  • Current enrollment in an Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related degree-seeking program at the Master's level. Bachelor's level students would also be considered based on specific relevant experience. 

  • Coursework or experience in digital systems, automation, API integration, or data analytics.

  • Understanding of modern manufacturing and enterprise systems such as SAP S/4HANA, MES, or IoT platforms beneficial.

  • Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, and formal presentation) and collaboration skills

  • Ability to travel (up to 25%)
