This position is expected to start around Aug/Sep 2025 and continue through the Fall term (approximately December 2025). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team

Tesla’s continued success depends on engineers being able to develop, debug, and deploy software quickly. Our web services, tools, and build infrastructure directly impact over 1000 vehicle, energy, and Autopilot software engineers. You'll be joining a small team located at the center of the firmware organization called Engineering Productivity, Build and Internal Infrastructure. This unique position exposes us to a wide array of interesting technical challenges and enables us to be the defenders of best practices such as code hygiene, reuse, and maintainability.  As the brains of a whole organization, you will work on developer experience, build frameworks and high availability of tools, services, and computational cluster. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Work on core build systems used by thousands of firmware engineers  
  • Implement new features in our web-based tooling, enhancing developer experiences  
  • You will work on building a distributed compute system, running code on hundreds of bare metal & cloud servers   
  • Your focus will be on making code more efficient to run, optimizing resources across the cluster, and speeding up the compute workloads we face    

Job Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Computer Science or a related field with a gradation date between 2025 - 2026
  • Excellent knowledge of any modern programming language (Golang, C++, Python, Rust, Ruby, etc.) 
  • Strong Linux knowledge 
  • Experience with distributed compute systems (k8s, Slurm, LSF, etc.) or distributed architectures 
  • Knowledge of messaging services (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis, etc.)
