Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Nuclear Training Department at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant in Monticello, MN. This paid internship provides an opportunity to contribute to the development and enhancement of training programs that support safe and efficient operations at a nuclear power station. Interns will gain hands-on experience with training documentation, instructional design, and innovative training technologies used in the nuclear industry. The program offers practical work experience, exposure to regulatory and operational standards, and opportunities to collaborate with experienced professionals in a highly specialized field. Interns will play a key role in supporting departmental goals and improving training effectiveness across the site.
Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Assist in the development and revision of training materials using the ADDIE instructional design model.
Support the implementation and maintenance of training software platforms and digital learning tools.
Organize and manage training documentation, records, and compliance paperwork.
Participate in training observations and feedback sessions to improve instructional quality.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather technical content for training modules.
Contribute to innovation initiatives aimed at modernizing training delivery methods.
This position is for a June 1, 2026 start date. The internship may be extended beyond the initial term based on the candidate’s performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.
Minimum Requirements:
Current student, Freshman or higher.
Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Education, Instructional Design, Engineering, Nuclear Technology, or a related field.
Able to commute to the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant in Monticello, MN.
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week).
Preferred Qualifications:
3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher.
Completed coursework in instructional design, technical writing, or engineering fundamentals.
Experience with Microsoft products, preferably Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate).
Basic coding experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript, VBA, or similar).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Interest in nuclear energy and regulatory compliance.
