Position Overview
Exact Sciences is committed to operating in a manner that respects and protects human health and the environment, while advancing our mission to eradicate cancer. We are seeking a motivated and detail- oriented Sustainability Intern to join our Environmental Sustainability team for Summer 2026. This role offers hands-on experience in corporate sustainability, greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, and ESG strategy within a fast-growing biotech company. The intern will support data-driven projects, process documentation, and strategic initiatives that strengthen Exact Sciences’ environmental sustainability program.
 

Potential Duties
GHG Inventory & Reporting

  • Assist with annual GHG data collection, quality checks, and alignment to financial statements.

  • Support documentation and procedure updates for Scope 1, 2, and select Scope 3 categories.

  • Help prepare materials for external assurance readiness.

Sustainability Data & Process Improvements

  • Work with Resource Advisor and Workiva to improve data tracking and reporting workflows.

  • Identify opportunities for automation or process simplification.

  • Develop dashboard visuals or summary tools for sustainability metrics.

Sustainability Working Group (SWG) Support

  • Support meeting preparation, note-taking, and action item tracking.

  • Help research and recommend best practices to guide SWG priorities (e.g., waste reduction, renewable energy, supplier engagement).

Capital Projects & Sustainable Design

  • Assist with implementation of sustainability into new building and expansion projects.

  • Research benchmarks (e.g., EUIs, LEED, WELL standards) and summarize recommendations for design teams.


ESG & Disclosure Preparation

  • Research peer company ESG disclosures and ratings (SASB, ISSB).

  • Support preparation of employee communications on sustainability progress.

Special Projects(based on timing/interest)

  • Develop a case study on one of Exact’s environmental initiatives (e.g., waste diversion or water reduction).

  • Explore opportunities for supplier sustainability engagement.

  • Analyze employee commute/transportation data and recommend potential programs.

  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.

  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.

  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.

  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.

  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.

  • Ability to work with hazardous or flammable materials so as not to endanger oneself or others.

  • Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science,

  • Engineering, Data Analytics, Business, or related field.

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (PowerBI or other visualization tools a plus).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Passion for sustainability, ESG, and corporate responsibility.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and basic computer skills (email, internet navigation).

  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Learning Opportunities

  • Gain hands-on experience in GHG accounting and ESG disclosure practices.

  • Exposure to corporate sustainability strategy and regulatory drivers (e.g., SB 253/261, SEC, CSRD).

  • Networking with sustainability professionals across Exact Sciences and external partners.

  • Experience working with sustainability software platforms (Resource Advisor, Workiva, PowerBI).
