Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Engineering Intern to be based in Oakland, California.

This position is expected to begin in August or September 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. 
  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work year-round in between class schedules. Typically, 10-16 hours a week.
  • EIT Certified or taking EIT in the next year.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Flexible – can adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
  • Able to work independently, self-learner.
  • Documents time and effort accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position. (examples include software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Interest in one or more of the following areas: civil infrastructure design, hydrology and hydraulics, pipeline and pump station design, stormwater management, and green infrastructure / low impact P26:P27.
