Software Engineer Internship

The Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Engineering team is looking for an intern interested in Continuous Integration(CI), automation, and cloud infrastructure to join us in Ireland. In this role, she/he will work closely with engineers to enhance CI pipelines, support test infrastructure, and contribute to automation workflows. The intern will assist in troubleshooting infrastructure issues, maintaining test jobs, and improving monitoring solutions. This internship will provide a unique opportunity to CI skills in pipelines, automation, cloud environments, cluster management while contributing to real-world software development and deployment processes.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, full-time internship based at the respective RH offices (Cork, Waterford, Dublin), with flexible working hours. The expected start date is January 2026.

What you will do:

• Assist in managing and maintaining CI pipelines to ensure stable test infrastructure.

• Work on automating workflows using Golang, Bash, or other languages.

• Troubleshoot and resolve test environment issues to maintain continuous operations.

• Contribute to monitoring and observability efforts using tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

• Collaborate with component teams to review and refine automated test jobs.

• Support infrastructure needs and help coordinate resource allocation.

• Document and improve internal processes for KubeVirt CI best practices.

What you will bring:

• You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Republic of Ireland during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us full time from January till August 2026

• Working knowledge of written and spoken English

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and Containerization.

• Basic experience with CI tools (Jenkins, Prow, or similar).

• Familiarity with scripting languages (Golang, Bash, or similar).

• Understanding of cloud infrastructure and container technologies (Kubernetes, OpenShift, Podman).

• Interest in automation and observability.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

• Experience with Linux-based environments and system administration.

• Some exposure to open-source projects or contributions.

• Interested in exploring AI-tooling for CI.
