In Person

At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team

The Additive Technology team operates at the frontier of research and development, where creativity meets capability. This is an R&D-driven environment where problems are open-ended and solutions are yours to define. You’ll work alongside welders, robotics engineers, data scientists, and systems engineers at the intersection of hardware and software, creating an end-to-end additive manufacturing platform that serves a wide variety of applications. From exploring new materials to unlocking faster print speeds, to designing complex, organic geometries that can’t be built any other way, it’s high-impact work that sets the foundation for the future of additive manufacturing.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Science Intern to join our dynamic R&D team. You will be responsible for developing and implementing ML models and algorithms that drive advancements in Relativity's Stargate additive manufacturing platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams such as Simulation, Robotics, and Software to identify and implement ML-based solutions that drive technology development. You will work to understand data from a wide variety of sources in and around the printer and select appropriate model architectures to achieve business goals. You'll be at the cutting edge of large scale additive manufacturing and you'll get to see the solutions you develop implemented in the Stargate platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning models related to large scale additive manufacturing systems.
  • Use a strong theoretical understanding of ML to guide model selection and optimization based on the data on hand and model performance requirements
  • Collaborate with other team members to deploy ML models into production environments.
  • Extract insights from a wide range of data sources such as sensors, cameras, and physical simulations to understand and optimize the interactions between materials, printing processes, and product performance.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders

About You

  • Actively pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python using machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Strong theoretical understanding of machine learning and statistics
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, optimization, and data visualization tools.

Nice to Haves but Not Required

  • Proficiency with collaborative software development concepts such as git, code review, and CICD
  • Background in the field of Additive Manufacturing
  • Proficiency with databases and SQL
