ABOUT THIS JOB:
CarMax Accounting is seeking a talented individual with a passion for business and a desire to develop into a strong business leader. This 10-week, project-based summer internship at our Home Office in Richmond, Virginia is designed to expose current college students to a corporate accounting environment and provide valuable hands-on experience.
WHAT YOU’LL DO - ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The work our interns perform is consistent with the work performed by our full-time associates, including real-time projects and issues that our teams are actively trying to solve. There will be opportunities to contribute to projects across a variety of accounting functions,which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate accounting, fixed assets, financial reporting, etc. Responsibilities will includea mix of independent work and collaborative, cross-functional projects, and may include interactions with customers and/or vendors.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
This internship is designed to assist the CarMax Accounting Department through a variety of tasks ranging from special projects to recurring monthly and quarterly tactical items. Ideal candidates are those who are interested in:
Obtaining hands-on experience that will provide exposure to the different functions that combine to form a corporate accounting department
Contributing to the goals that support our accounting initiatives
Contributing ideas and opinions to support our continuous improvement environment
Developing technical and business acumen
Building relationships with leaders and associates across the organization
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
A rising junior or rising senior in a 4-year business degree program (accounting preferred but not required) with an understanding of basic accounting terminology
A history of achievement and aptitude demonstrated by a strong GPA, and/or other recognition such as scholarships, awards, orhonor societies
Intermediate proficiency inMicrosoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required (e.g., filtering, v-lookups, subtotals, shortcuts, etc.)
Requires mathematical skills that would be gained from a typical undergraduate accounting or business curriculum
Familiarity with Oracle is a plus, but not required
Work Authorization:
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.
Work Location:
Associates will work from our Corporate Headquarters located in Richmond, VA, which has a Hybrid work arrangement in office of at minimum 2 days a week.
