Primary Objectives of Position:
PEAK R&D is seeking a motivated Graduate Student in Animal Breeding and Genetics or related field eager to learn how to transform science into a valuable tool for livestock producers. The student will become involved in developing proprietary genetic evaluations/indexes. They will engage with staff, including researchers and senior leadership, to plan and execute a project that contributes directly to product development.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Support and develop a proprietary genetic evaluation and/or index using appropriate models and software.
- Collect, manage, and analyze data using R/phyton, ensuring reliable outputs.
- Contribute to the refinement and development of internal processes
- Improve, develop, and document R scripts.
- Collaborate across team within PEAK/URUS to deliver a valuable product
Qualifications:
- Pursuing Master or PhD in Animal Breeding & Genetics or related field
- Experience in quantitative and genomic data analysis
- Experience with R or Phyton is required
- Experience with BLUPF90 software or similar is required
- Experience with single-step genetic evaluation is a plus
- Dairy background is a plus
- Knowledge with Databricks platform is a plus
- Proactive, collaborative, and adaptable mindset, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
