Summary
Our Summer Internship Program is meticulously designed to provide students with an immersive and dynamic experience within our industry, offering a taste of what it's like to be part of our professional team. We strive to simulate a full-time job, enabling our interns to work hands-on with cutting-edge technology, contribute to meaningful projects, build strong relationships with coworkers, and develop strategic problem-solving skills. Our program is highly selective, hosting only a handful of interns each year, ensuring personalized attention and ample opportunities to work closely with AV team members. 
We are hiring for various roles and locations throughout the U.S. During the interview process, we will discuss specific details regarding the team and location.
AV is seeking a Washington Operations Intern to support our Executive Branch, Interagency, Congressional, and Communications efforts within our Government Relations team in Arlington, VA. This on-site role will focus on compiling, analyzing, and tracking: executive branch policy and budgetary developments; defense acquisition priorities; interagency decision-making processes and international developments relevant to AV's portfolio; and compiling and disseminating relevant daily news articles. The intern will assist the Washington Operations team members in supporting coordination with the Department of Defense, Department of State, Department of Commerce and other federal entities, and provide support to the Washington Operation’s Legislative Affairs team to advocate within the federal resource allocation process.
Position Responsibilities
•    Support the Government Relations team in preparing for executive branch engagements, including meetings with DoD, State, Commerce, and interagency staff.
•    Track and monitor market trends within relevant sectors, including defense and technology.
•    Track and analyze executive orders, policy memos, and federal agency announcements related to defense technology, export controls, industrial base policy, and innovation.
•    Assist with developing briefing materials, white papers, and background memos for use in interagency and federal executive discussions.
•    Monitor relevant federal register notices, acquisition forecasts, and funding opportunity announcements.
•    Support AV’s communications with executive branch stakeholders on strategic initiatives such as foreign and domestic military sales, critical munition designations, and rapid fielding pathways.
•    Assist the Legislative Affairs Manager with coordination across congressional and executive branch activities when needed.
•    Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
•    Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Political Science, International Relations, Government, Public Policy, National Security Studies, or a related field.
•    Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in current degree program.
•    Demonstrated interest in U.S. national security policy, international affairs/relations, defense acquisition, and interagency decision-making.
•    Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with a focus on policy and strategic communications.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
•    Previous internship experience, to include interactions with external customers, think tanks, federal agencies, or media.
•    Basic familiarity with executive and legislative branch processes, roles, and responsibilities.
Physical Demands
•    Ability to work in an office environment (Constant)
•    Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)
Special Requirements
•    U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) is required.
•    Occasional travel may be required within the Continental U.S.

This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
