The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking three (3) Investment Risk Co-ops/Interns for the Winter 2026 work term (January - April) to support Investment Risk initiatives across BCI’s public and private market portfolios.

The Investment Risk Co-op/Intern will work within our Investment Strategy & Risk department in the Investment Risk branch. Investment Risk is responsible for monitoring, measuring and estimating relevant investment risks across BCI’s asset classes, including aggregating risk at a total fund level. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to support the development of investment risk measures, enhance monitoring and reporting frameworks, and assist with streamlining processes using the latest technology.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will report to the Investment Risk Co-op/Intern Program Manager and have the opportunity to work with multiple teams across the Investment Risk branch, including Transactions & Total Portfolio Risk, Investment Risk Modelling, and Investment Risk Reporting. You’ll have the support of a Project Mentor for each project assignment.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Assist in the development, enhancement, and maintenance of risk models, dashboards, and databases for credit, liquidity, counterparty, market and total portfolio risk

  • Contribute to the creation and optimization of risk reporting templates, including interactive visualizations (e.g., Power BI)

  • Assist with risk assessments for new investments. Conduct industry and company research, identify portfolio impacts, and perform what-if scenario analysis and stress testing

  • Monitor and summarize market news, credit spreads, and stock prices relevant to BCI’s investment portfolios

  • Support process improvement initiatives, including automation and streamlining of risk-related processes

  • Document new processes and ensure data accuracy and consistency with project specifications

  • Fulfill ad hoc requests and participate in special projects as required

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Working towards or holding a degree in finance, economics, commerce, statistics, business, computer science, or a related discipline

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; sound knowledge of Power BI

  • Ability to gather, process, and present large amounts of data concisely and accurately

  • Foundational knowledge of financial instruments & markets and an interest in investment risk

  • Familiarity with financial systems such as Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ is preferred

  • Experience with SQL, Python and AI/machine learning techniques is an asset

  • Competitive pay: $2,330.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
