Overview
The School of Social Sciences at Utah State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Anthropology specializing in Bioarcheology. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise using bioarcheological and/or molecular records to study demography, the socio-ecology of disease, conflict, and/or food systems. Candidates with a record of securing external funds are strongly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates committed to collaborating with colleagues in the department to strengthen graduate programs, apply for external funds, publish research, and engage in teaching and service.
This is a tenure-track position with a 2/2 teaching load. The appointment begins August 1, 2026. Review of applications begins November 10, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities
The role statement for this position is 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% service.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field from a CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent.
- The ability to teach bioarcheology courses
- Demonstrated ability to live and work legally in the U.S.
- The successful applicant must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A record of receiving external grants
- Expertise in quantitative research
