Team Overview: The NFCU Zero Trust team consists of Project Managers, Senior Cybersecurity Engineers, and a Solutions Architect dedicated to advancing Zero Trust security and achieving organizational maturity in this domain. This team is responsible for analyzing all projects and tools in use, as well as coordinating with stakeholders throughout the organization—an essential function in attaining Zero Trust maturity. The Summer Associate will support the team by contributing to the completion of quarterly objectives aligned with these goals.

NFCU has implemented the Department of Defense (DoD) Zero Trust architecture in conjunction with the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model to establish a comprehensive Zero Trust framework. We are seeking an intern who will contribute to several key areas, including identifying artificial intelligence and automation requirements for Zero Trust, supporting the execution of the roadmap, and assisting in achieving Zero Trust compliance.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, or a related technology-focused discipline is required. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171 is expected. 
  • An understanding of Zero Trust frameworks, including NIST 800-207, the DOD Zero Trust Reference Architecture, and CISA Zero Trust Maturity, is also preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is essential, while experience with Power BI is considered an advantage.

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM

  • Key responsibilities involve the identification and documentation of Zero Trust capabilities and requirements. 
  • Supporting efforts to automate Zero Trust compliance processes. 
  • Aligning AI/ML standards with the Zero Trust Framework. 
  • Attend and contribute to stakeholder and leadership briefings.
