Department Overview

The Unified Communications team has a mission to become the leader in creating a highly scalable software platform and communication applications for first responders and industrial workgroups. Our customers rely on these solutions to run their critical business operations in the public safety, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. Every single day, we are shaping the future of mobile workgroup solutions for public safety and industrial users worldwide leveraging Motorola’s rich heritage in this space. Our solutions include broadband Push to Talk (PTT), multimedia messaging, location based collaboration, video streaming with full interoperability with land mobile radio (LMR) systems. The products include client apps on Android, iOS, and Windows. Our backend software can be deployed On-Prem, in private data centers, or in a public cloud infrastructure.

We offer LMR interoperability as part of Motorola Solutions’ Wave PTX service. This Service is critical to this extended ecosystem, helps remove the complexity of network integration, and enables the seamless flow of information.

We offer a Unified Recorder solution to log WAVE broadband audio, video calls, and LMR audio calls. Voice recording and analysis improve productivity and offer post-incident insights to operations. Seamlessly retrieve audio and data from radio and telephony communications to help recreate incidents just as they happened. 


Job Description

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for helping deliver mission-critical communication infrastructure as part of Motorola’s WAVE product suite.

This role is based in Allen, TX. The candidate will work within our diverse team of engineers, developing back-end services and front-end clients. The candidate will also have opportunities to work with and influence engineers within several engineering teams. Contribute to feature development, identifying bug fixes, documentation, and peer reviews.

Qualifications: 

Proficient in manual testing with experience in Lab infrastructure.
Experience designing and developing both on-prem and cloud-based applications.
Passionate about shipping high-quality, secure software to security-conscious customers.


Basic Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or an allied discipline.

  • Must have a graduation date on or after December 2026.

  • Must be a US Citizen, permanent resident or be an MS student with work authorization (F1 Visa on CPT accepted only for masters-level students).
