The Need 

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% forvery largepopulations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Global Safety & Security Intern to join the 2026 SummerInternship class.

The Global Safety & Security team oversees the safety and security of IJM personnel and clients worldwide. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, Global Safety & Security interns can expect their tasks to include: 

  • Compiling daily briefs for senior leaders based onopen sourcenews sites which summarize key current events around the world that couldimpactIJM’s operations; 

  • Assistingin coordinating courselogisticsfor specialized safety and security trainings; 

  • Researching and preparing memorandaregardingthreat assessments and crisis response plans; 

  • Tracking and reporting on security developments in regions of the world where IJM has offices; 

  • Completing research assignments assigned by Director of Global Safety & Security to provide in-depth reports of latest safety and security threats to IJM's work; 

  • Assistin tracking the Field Offices' compliance with IJM Security Manual policies and procedures through check-ins with Field Office security personnel 

  • Assistingwith the management of IJM’s crisis response system; and 

  • Participating in departmental and general IJM administrative support. 

This position can be fully in-person or hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to theCoordinator, GlobalSafety& Security. The position requires 30-40 hoursper week.

Summerinternship program dates are June 1– Aug. 7, 2026

*What is a statement of faith?
A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM.The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document and should include, at a minimum, a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.
